Comparing Initial Ideas to Rough Cuts

Front Cover
I have made some changes from my inital ideas of my front cover to my rough cut. Even though I have kept my idea of having 3 models. I have changed from having 3 males ones to 2 males and one female. This is due to who was willing to model for my magazine. I have also changed the positioning of my inside stories. I did however said that these would change as in my inital idea, I didn't like it. I have however kept the band name in the same place. And as you can see I went with my favourite name 'Fallen Sound'. I have also kept my title/logo the same as my inital idea. I actually like it more now that I have put it in photoshop and made it look professional.

Contents Page

My contents page layout has stayed the same from my inital ideas to rough cut. However it may not have worked out as well as I planned. I don't partically like the fonts I have used for my rough cut either. They just don't go somehow. The photos I have taken as well don't seem to have turned out as I expected. I was a bit rushed towards my deadline which explains the stretched look to some of them. I seem to have alot of empty space which wasn't on my inital ideas either. My contents page at the moment is probably the page out of my magazine that I don't like. It is probably the closest to my inital ideas and that somehow has made it my least favourite as I can't find any way to improve on it.

Double Page Spread

This along with my front cover has gone very well. I have stuck to my inital ideas but just improved on them. The band image is the same as what I initally said as well as the positioning of the text and title. However when actually putting this idea on the screen I found that I couldn't really see the text I had written due to the photo background and the colour scheme I have chosen therefore I have put a white box around the text so it can be seen and easily read. I have also finished my analysis and after researching all of my model magazines I found that they had a quote from the text in the middle of the main text. I have used a drop letter at the beginning of the introduction which is also a common feature of a double page spread. I have used the branding in the position I said but I somehow don't like it in that position anymore now that I see it on a screen.

Diary Entry, Week 10 (4 days to go...)

11th April

Well with less than a week to go to my final deadline, everything has become a little more stressful. I still need to put pictures in my magazine and then it will be finished. Just a shame that the photo are a very important part of my magazine. I have have abit of work to do on here. I somehow seem to be creating more work for myself (not really to sure how however). Today I added the finishing touches to my contents page. Therefore all my magazine needs is it's photos.

Diary Entry, Week 10 (3 days to go...)

12th April

Today was all about getting my blog sorted out. Everything in the right order and that I have at least started everything. Yes I know, creating more for myself yet again and it doesnt really help with my dealing with stress. But hopefully it will get me a better mark. I still havn't got all my photos in my magazine, which is really starting to worry me. I know I will get it done on time cz I always do, but it still isn't great to think about the what ifs.. Anyway with only two full days left to my blog and magazine I should hopefully be on track to meeting my deadline.

Model(s)or Prop(s):

All facial expressions to be serious and arrogant/confident.
Camera angle and Distance:
Shot was a medium close up as to get all of the chests of my models to be able to see their body language due to their pose. Therefore I will stand about a metre away from them then adjust the zoom lense on the camera to get the right distance.

Final Cut Photos; Before & After

Front Cover

I didn't really need to do anything to this photo. I was pretty happy with it after I had taken it. I have changed the models from my rough cut slightly and gone back to my inital idea of 3 male models. This seems to work better for the genre of my magazine. I simply cut the top of this photo off as it showed the top of the white screen. I also used the healing tool a little on my models as they had a couple of blemishes that were visable. When I put the photo on my front cover all I had to do with adjust the size of it so it fitted the page.

Contents Page

Picture 01

This picture I added after my rough cut as I felt my contents page needed more photos. For this photo all I did was cut out the photo from the background to make it clearer and more professional as the background was not suited for my magazine.

Picture 02

For this picture all I did to it was re-size it to fit the space on my contents page. The reason why I didnt do much editing to this photo was because I took it at a concert and it is in exactly the style I want. It was prefectly suited for it's job.

Picture 03

This photo is I re-sized to fit the space that was designed for this photo. However it does look a little stretched width wise however this is the actual width of the photo. The only re-sizing I did was on the height of the image. I infact made it smaller which could make the width of the image look a little unatural.

Picture 04

This is the last photo on my contents page and is of my feature band. I edited this photo by first cropping of the top of the picture as it showed the seam in the sheet. I then used the spot healing tool to edited some of the blemishes on my models that could be seen. Nothing else had to be done to this photo as I liked it from when I took it to seeing it on the computer screen on my contents page.

Double Page Spread

This photo was one of the ones I took a few days before my deadline. The photos I took that day I really liked because my models actually looked like a band. Therefore the wasnt much I had to edit. Like the rest of the photos I took that day, I had to crop the top of the image off to get rid of the seams that could be seen on the sheet. I then re-sized the image to fit the space I had given this photo on my double page spread. I used the healing tool to get rid of the blemishes on my models faces as this was a more close up image than the one I used in my rough cut and I didnt really want spots and freckles to be seen as I am trying to make my magazine look professional.

Diary Entry, Week 10 (2 days to go...)

13th April

Today became a little more stressful. Everyone is rushing to get all their coursework finished. I got my final photos taken today which settled my nerves as it is the last thing I need to do to my music magazine. I changed one model for my band 'Fallen Sound'. I changed Daisy for Joe Harris in my media class as he looks more 'Indie' fitting my chosen genre for this magazine. However everything seemed to go wrong today. I like working on photoshop as it is probably the best program around. However today went from bad to worse for me with the software. By the end of my lunch break, I had edited my new photos and placed them into my magazine in the positions I wanted. I then also edited the layout and text around the photos so they could be seen. However by the end of lunch, photoshop would'nt let me save my work or close it down, it simply froze. The worrying thing is that all my work from today may have been lost meaning I therefore have alot to do tomorrow. They day of my deadline! Hopefully photoshop works tomorrow. *fingers crossed*
